Rella’s Cambrian Dream is an immersive app designed to bring the Cambrian period to life, combining scientific discovery with artistic creativity. The app allows users to explore prehistoric marine life and underwater landscapes through rich visuals and interactive elements.
I contributed to this project by providing illustration and graphic design services for a development workshop at the University of Calgary in October 2024. My role involved creating visual assets that enhance the user experience while maintaining the app’s educational focus.
This project began in 2022 and is currently under development, aiming for a public launch in 2026. I am truly grateful to be able to participate again in the project that has left the deepest impression on me since I started my design career.

Background Illustrations
This series of background illustrations captures the serene beauty of Cambrian-era underwater and coastal landscapes, blending realism with hand-drawn details. Each scene transports viewers to a time of ancient marine life, from deep blue ocean depths with shimmering light rays, to vibrant coral reefs teeming with early life forms. The rocky shores and calm underwater landscapes are rendered with soft sunlight and rich textures, evoking a peaceful, almost ethereal world. These illustrations offer a glimpse into the past, merging artistic charm with natural beauty to showcase the essence of the ancient seas.
Sea Scope
A frame that represents the view of the game player(using smartphone) after moving underwater through the story. Early on in the project, we tried to design it to resemble a spaceship or submarine window, but it was decided to place it at the top and bottom of the screen in a broad curve that represented a more abstract, organic eyelid. This gave the advantage of keeping the screen much wider.
At this time, a test mockup is shown, as it is still under development. Seascope colors are also currently being tested.
