About the project
The prototype of the interactive story experience application was showcased at Harbourfront Centre's Junior Festival 2022 (The full version will be released in 2023)
Commissioned for Rella's Cambrian Dream Project as a Digital Visual Artist
Introduction
Rella's Cambrian Dream is a multi-disciplinary, immersive theatre adventure/experience for all audiences. The story is set 508 million years ago, in the Cambrian Period, in a warm shallow ocean. The characters (portrayed by actors by various means) are all ancient undersea creatures—tiny arthropods who, much later, were discovered as fossils atop the Rocky Mountains.

Background Illustrations Development
My aim was to visualize the world of the Cambrian era that none of us had seen with our own eyes— I referred to books of fossils from the era and had meetings with the creative team to make sure the direction was good to go especially the colours. Since the air and ocean component was totally different from the current environment, the story writer helped with visualizing the process.
From my draft sketches for brainstorming, I used mainly blue colours that are more like the ocean views that we can see in the current. I didn't change those colours dramatically but shifted to a bit unique shade of purple/green to indicate that those are from different periods of time.
Final illustration works
Logo Design
The logo features the main creature, Marella. It is also called "Lace Crab" for its detailed structures on the body, I tried to keep those features while aiming for a clean silhouette to make it appropriate as a logo.
Host cartoon character design
The character has features from both humans and the main creature Marella.
Illustrations for the interactive quiz
The app contains quizzes to encourage the young audience to have a deeper understanding/connection to the Cambrian era.
Illustrations for the interactive activity
Those vector graphics are for the young audience to experience that our body has the same structure(spine) as the ancient creature, Pikaia.
Stickers
Gifts for the audience who visited the showcase at Harbourfront Centre.
Programs used: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign
